Sierra Leone: Action Aid Boosts FSU

Freetown — ActionAid yesterday donated eight Del computers, one lap top, and nine generators to support the family support unit, FSU of the Sierra Leone police in Freetown.

Speaking at the donation ceremony held at the criminal investigations department, CID headquarters in Freetown, country director Tennyson Williams said the aim of the donation was to continue the support they give to the police
He said the gesture was also part of the his organization's responsibilities in the country.

"To support the FSU is part of ActionAid's responsibilities. We have many responsibilities and this is just one of them. We are working in cohabitation with the police across to country, especially to minimise the violence against women and children," Williams said.

He said he believed that if the police were fully supported they will work more.

Police AIG Francis Munu said the items were not the first support they have received from ActionAid.

"They help us even in the recent police training. This is an addition of their support," Munu said adding that they were now getting many cases of violence than ever before.

He said because of the awareness raising activities they do across the country, women now feel comfortable to come to the police whenever there was a problem.

"The SLP established the FSU unit in all police sations to look at complaints brought in by women and children.,"said the police boss.

He, however, assured that the items will be used judiciously.
